Jackie Bibby

Jackie Bibby, the Texas “snake man” spent about 45 minutes in a see-through bathtub with 87 rattle snakes for Guinness World records. The snakes crawled all over his body, between his arms and legs, but not bite him. The snakes not bite him because he was stayed still in the tub. Even if rattle snakes are replaced with non-poisonous snakes, we cannot venture such a task. However, a small child, who not yet learn t the fear of snakes, can sit in the bathtub without any fear. This child not yet learn t the fear of snakes. Once he learns he too cannot venture such a risk. Fear of death is thus a learned response.

The fear of failure is a stumbling block

Fear is our trusted friend, it warns us of danger, it reminds of past experiences. It is only a warning signal. We may act or ignore, using our discretion. We are not supposed to react for every single warning. Unless you consciously subdue it, fear will capture the situation, and you remain a silent spectator.

Some people die everyday with the thoughts of theft, thoughts of loss, which never takes place. However, they experience that fears everyday and subject their body with anxiety and stress unnecessarily. The signal of danger asks us to take certain precautions. Otherwise the impulse has no significance. Just we have to ignore it.

Exercising discretion can neutralize the fear

Many people suffer the fear of failure. This fear immobilizes them and not allows them to take even a small risk. However, as a child we used to take all sorts of risks. In the fear of failure, there is no threat to life. Then why do we fear? It is fear of rejection. The fear of rejection is a big stumbling block that not allows us to take even smallest risks, and we confine to mediocre life. Can children learn walking without falling down? We don’t realize such a simple life principle.

Evolution of fear of death

Understand the evolution of emotions. The fear of death plays a crucial role in the life of birds, fish and reptiles. Their body responds instantaneously without the intervention of conscious mind. The emotion of fear precedes the thought that saves their life. However, in human life, with the advancement of civilization, threat to life was minimized to the larger extent. The emotion of fear, therefore, had a negligible role in our lives. However, we are continuous to be affected by the fear of death.

Human evolution is not in pace with human civilization. We always play safe under the influence of fear of loss or fear of failure. Playing safe is nothing but, limiting our potential. Mind you, the fear of death is root cause of all other fears. It is a learned response you can unlearn it with conscious mind.

Our conscious mind continuously captures by emotional mind. Success stories of others motivate us, but it is short lived. We are pretty sure of our knowledge and expertise. However, the fear of rejection or failure over takes and over power the conscious mind. The emotion of fear rooted in our psyche very deeply, and it is very difficult to uproot it, unless the intensified passion and determination subdue the fear.

Spiritual thoughts

Indian spiritual philosophy advocates that body and mind are physical but the real you are non physical. You are an invisible, infinite reservoir of pure energy that sustains the body and mind. You feel eternal by shifting focus.

A person enjoying each minute of life does not think or afraid of death. We require tomorrow as today is unfulfilled. Do not focus on the things on which you have no control. Leave them to the discretion of the God. Your job here is living the life totally each minute.
