Leader is the person who deliberately nurtures the leadership qualities available within him for a good cause. That is why few people become leaders.

A close observation of all the great leaders reveals that they mastered 7 essential skills to bring about their leadership qualities. Every one of us who masters these skills and apply them in their life can fulfill their leadership dreams. Leadership is nothing but fulfillment of innate deep desires.

1) Leaders don’t follow the beaten track

Our life is governed by opinions, beliefs and perceptions, which are imposed by the others on us, including our parents, teachers, religious priests and many others. Our mind is a wastage dump of others. We wear the mask of others and never evolved beyond the mediocre life mirroring the experience of others. Our behavior is thus replaying of the experience others, and we rarely question these beliefs. Unless these learnt beliefs are altered and replaced with innovative and creative approaches, leadership development is not attainable.

Recognition of passion leads to preparation of blue print of the vision. Preparation of the road map is essential, without which journey is not possible. Without deciding where to go, can we start our journey? First decide the place and then start the journey.

4) Leader moves the emotions of people and put together right teams

Leaders inspire people with their vision. They are hope givers and optimism generators. They attract the people which facilitate the leader for building the right team. The core executive skill of the leadership is team building. Leaders put together investors, employees and customers. Leader identifies right people for a right job and put together them. This is what we call as “leverage”.

5) Leaders give importance to people and relationships

Core value of leadership is relationship building and all other activities are a means to achieve this core value. Leader’s first priority is relationship building. He doesn’t miss a single opportunity to meet the people. He is caring and compassionate and his employees are comfortable with him.

6) Leaders enjoy the journey

Playing is equal to enjoying. Play is enjoyed only when the outcome is not too important. If the outcome is important the way you play the game becomes unimportant, then there is no play. Enjoy the journey don’t postpone enjoyment until reaching the goal. If you enjoy each stroke of the game, then winning the game is automatic. Leaders are not guilty of past or worry about the future. They live in the present. While eating a sweet just enjoy its sweetness.

7) Leaders are ageless learners

Leaders are learners .Their learning stops only at the time of their last breath. They listen to everybody and see greatness in others for without them, they can’t be leaders. Once they stop learning they can’t be leaders. All these 7 skills of leadership are indispensable for great leadership. Leader or leadership is a perfect blend of these 7 skills.
